“Independent of U.S. services” – this phrase is becoming more urgent every day. It reflects the work we do at vBoxx and Leitzcloud by vBoxx. On May 8, 2025, ARD Morgenmagazin aired a segment highlighting the growing need for European cloud independence in today’s digital world.
Our colleague, Nina-Sophie Sczepurek from Leitzcloud by vBoxx, participated in the segment to share her view. During the interview, she stated that “It’s time to move away from foreign-controlled cloud platforms. Instead, we must invest in secure, private European cloud solutions that respect regional laws and values.”

The Shift Toward European Cloud Independence
In the ARD interview, Nina-Sophie Sczepurek explained how European companies are shifting away from U.S. providers. Businesses increasingly demand transparent, regulated, and European-controlled IT services. At vBoxx, we fully support this transition.
Why is this so important? More than 90% of data generated in Europe is stored by US companies. These firms are subject to U.S. laws like the Cloud Act, which allows U.S. authorities access—even to data stored in the EU. This undermines both data privacy and European digital sovereignty.
Europe must protect and manage its own data infrastructure—not just for compliance, but to ensure long-term trust, resilience, and independence.
Our Role
At vBoxx, we have always taken digital sovereignty seriously. We own and operate our own infraestructure in ISO-certified, GDPR-compliant data centers in the Netherlands, where all vBoxx data is stored and managed under strict European jurisdiction. While Leiztcloud takes a similar approach, their infrastructure is based in Germany, ensuring data is stored and managed within German borders under equally robust data protection laws.
As mentioned in the interview, we’re seeing increased interest from German and European businesses looking to break away from U.S. providers and switch to independent, secure cloud solutions. These organizations want more than convenience—they want control, accountability, and compliance.
Unfortunately, many European tech firms that once stood for privacy and data security have disappeared in recent years, further emphasizing the need for robust local alternatives. That’s where we come in—and where we remain firmly committed.
Looking Forward
We at vBoxx agree fully with the views expressed in the ARD Morgenmagazin feature. This is not just a trend—it’s a movement. A movement toward digital independence, security, and sustainability in Europe.
We hope more people, institutions, and policymakers come to recognize what’s at stake: it’s not just about where data is stored—it’s about who controls it and how it’s protected.
Let’s continue to build a digital future that’s secure, private, and sovereign. For Europe—and with Europe.
